What is Asthma?

More than 50 million Americans have allergies and 20 million have asthma. Asthma is characterized by inflammation of the air passages resulting in the temporary narrowing of the airways that transport air from the nose and mouth to the lungs. Treatment can be prescription or over-the-counter medications and they are often very costly. Vitamin and mineral supplements are recommended for people with: food allergies/intolerances (especially if an individual is eliminating a food group), poor appetites or poor food intakes (people who eat < 1200 calories daily), seniors, vegetarians (people who completely abstain from eating animal foods), pregnancy (consult with your physician first).
